The OWL University of Applied Sciences (TH OWL), represented by the Institute for Energy Research (iFE), is one of the initiators and drivers of the DC-INDUSTRIE initiative. The iFE is particularly well established in the field of power electronics for industrial applications in production automation, in the design of industrial grids and the repercussions of feed-in and regenerative power converters.
The preparation of the two project phases DC-INDUSTRIE and DC-INDUSTRIE 2 was organisationally and technically supported and co-managed by the TH OWL, which ultimately led to the founding of the ODCA. One of the main goals of the TH OWL here is to bring DC technology further towards application.
Based on the experience with DC, the aim was to implement and validate the efficiency gains and further potential in an existing environment. In the brownfield approach, not only modernizations are evaluated but also an extended infrastructure is set up in DC in order to be able to map future-oriented research projects with performance above laboratory characteristics.
