What's the difference between AC and DC

When we talk about cabling for DC grids, then from physics it’s mostly the same to AC, you do not need different copper or anything else. But the positive thing is that compared to AC, where you have three phases you only need two phases, a DC+ and a DC-, so you are saving copper.
