The goal has been set: Germany is to become climate neutral, and as quickly as possible. To achieve this goal, further efforts are needed in all sectors to switch to renewable energies and to increase energy efficiency. In industry, too, further electrification (here: of production processes) will make the decisive contribution. The logical next step is the conversion to plants that are operated with direct current (DC) instead of the usual alternating current (AC) and in a network. In such a DC factory, conversion losses are reduced and power generation plants from renewable energies as well as battery storage are directly integrated into the factory systems.
