Current/OS and Open DC Alliance join forces to support deployment of Direct Current applications

Current/OS and the Open Direct Current Alliance (ODCA) announce the signing of a strategic partnership aimed at accelerating the emergence of a coherent and interoperable ecosystem for direct current (DC). A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by both organizations. The partners will combine their efforts to map and harmonize terminology, system architectures, voltage levels and interfaces, application requirements, and work towards presenting aligned positions to relevant standardization committees.

As the deployment of direct current becomes a key aspect of the energy transition, ensuring compatibility between installations and equipment is becoming increasingly important. This partnership aims to enable the adoption of DC power distribution solutions through a common global specification.

Under this MoU, Current/OS and ODCA will progressively align their approaches, share their work, and coordinate their positions on technology, applications, and standardization. This cooperation reflects the willingness to converge, helping to accelerate the adoption of direct current. It also aims to secure industrial investments and ensure equipment interoperability.

Two complementary actors promoting the use of direct current

The MoU reflects the shared vision of both entities. Both Current/OS and ODCA are international alliances, bringing together over 200 manufacturers, suppliers, research experts, end users and other stakeholders around the development of direct current technology.

For Yannick Neyret, President of Current/OS: “Direct current is an essential tool to make energy in Europe more sustainable. By bringing Current/OS and ODCA together, we are choosing cooperation in order to build a common, robust, and open standard that will benefit the entire European ecosystem.”

Dr. Hartwig Stammberger, Chair of the Board of ODCA: “ODCA is convinced this collaboration will accelerate the adoption of direct current by aligning proven approaches and strengthening a common framework. Together with Current/OS, we will promote interoperable DC microgrids internationally.”

About Current/OS

The Current/OS Foundation brings together an ecosystem of over 120 partners from 30 countries, including electricity stakeholders, construction firms, certification companies, trade groups, universities, and more to promote a unified standard for DC installations, by providing rules for the manufacture and installation of compatible equipment that can operate safely in localized DC power distribution networks.

About ODCA

The Open Direct Current Alliance (ODCA) is an international alliance built on proven, commercially installed DC applications. ODCA unites end users, suppliers, and further stakeholders to establish DC applications through exploring and supporting tangible real-world implementations, shaping open standards, and creating technical knowledge. ODCA increases market awareness by publishing practical guidance and sharing lessons learned.
